Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with French warplanes in a combined operation targeting an underground arms cache in Syria employed by the IS group, as stated by the British defence ministry.
The site, pinpointed through intelligence, was assessed as housing weapons and explosive materials, the release indicated, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft used laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to strike a series of access tunnels down to the site... early reports indicate the objective was successfully hit," the MoD said.
There was no sign of any civilian casualties in the operation on Saturday evening and all the aircraft returned safely, the MoD added.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager tanker plane.

"This action demonstrates the UK's leading role, and commitment to operate in unison with our allies, to eradicate any resurgence of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East," the British Defence Secretary the minister stated.
RAF aircraft have carried out surveillance missions over Syrian airspace to "forestall any attempted resurgence" of the group subsequent to its defeat at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I want to thank the personnel of the UK armed forces participating in this operation for their skill and their valour," Healey added. "They were part of a great many UK service members deployed over the holidays. This mission, to remove terrorist threats who threaten our security, shows how British military are always on standby, all year round, protecting the UK at home and powerful internationally."
